Title:From insights to optimal decision-making using artificial intelligence
Abstract:While artificial intelligence has gained a lot of traction in recent years, specific forms of AI have actually existed for a long time. Where modern techniques like machine learning focus on understanding and extrapolating data to the future to understand the world around us, they do not answer an essential question: deciding how to respond. In this talk we take a look at decision intelligence, which is a mathematical toolbox for describing decision-making problems and solving them to obtain the globally optimal course of action. We introduce both theoretical concepts and practical applications in a wide range of industries to give an idea of what’s possible. We also look at recent developments that enable solving problems that were considered unsolvable until recently.
Bio:Ronald van der Velden holds a MSc degree in Econometrics and Operations Research at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He started his career at Quintiq where he fulfilled various roles ranging from creating planning and scheduling models as a software developer, to business analysis and solution design at customers worldwide, as well as executing technical sales activities like value scans and "one week demo challenges". He also spent two years as a lead developer at a niche company focused on 3D graphics in the entertainment industry before going back to his mathematical roots at Gurobi, where he works as a Technical Account Manager supporting new Gurobi users with technical topics like performance, modeling and architecture. He frequently speaks at Gurobi events within the EMEAI region.
