| Title: | Privacy Preservation, Billing, and Load Monitoring for Internet of Things (Smart Meters) |
| Abstract: | With the advancement in technology, more and more devices are going to be connected with the Internet. The same trend of this increased connectivity of household devices can also be observed in the context of our smart homes. In smart homes, every electronic device will be connected to the Internet and facilitate the smart homes users. Electricity providing companies (utilities) have upgraded existing electric meters with more advanced versions a.k.a., smart meters, capable of communicating in real- time with the utilities. These smart meters collect information on the electric energy consumption of homes, thus making it possible to monitor real time energy consumption of appliances, manage demand response etc. In this talk, I discuss our recently proposed technique - Differential Privacy with Noise Cancellation Technique (DPNCT) - to maximize utility in aggregated load monitoring and fair billing while preserving users’ privacy by using noise cancellation mechanism on differentially private data. Moreover, I will also discuss about an attack resilient Differential Privacy Model For Smart Grids Using Split Noise Cancellation. |
| Bio: | Mubashir Husain Rehmani (M’14-SM’15) received the B.Eng. degree in computer systems engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan, in 2004, the M.S. degree from the University of Paris XI, Paris, France, in 2008, and the Ph.D. degree from the University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris, in 2011. He is currently working as Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, Munster Technological University (MTU), Ireland. He has authored/edited a total of eight books. One of his textbooks on Blockchain is part of the MSc curriculum in MTU, Ireland. He was ranked # 1 in all Engineering disciplines in 2017 from Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan. He received several best paper awards. He is serving in the editorial board of several top ranked journals including NATURE Scientific Reports, IEEE Communication Surveys and Tutorials, IEEE Transactions on Green Communication and Networking, IEEE Open Journal of Communications Society, and many others. He has been selected for inclusion on the annual Highly Cited Researchers™ 2020, 2021 and 2022 list from Clarivate. His performance in this context features in the top 1% in the field of Computer Science and Cross Field. |
