Title: | How to build a global QKD network with the aid of small satellites |
Abstract: | Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is one of the most mature quantum technologies, and it is expected to have a role in future quantum-safe networks. Fiber-based QKD networks are being built around the world to trial the technology and identify reference use-cases. These networks have limited range because of intrinsic losses within the fiber. In this talk, I will discuss how QKD works, how it is used in communications, and how small satellites can connect the disparate networks for a global network. If time permits, I will also discuss how future technologies may look like. |
